Costumed kids seeking candy will have two different dates to do so in Floyd County, as trick-or-treat has been set for Oct. 28 in the city of Prestonsburg and Oct. 30 in the rest of the county.

According to Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry Fannin, this is the first time that the county and the city have scheduled different dates for the holiday.

“I called each one of the city council members and the majority said they wanted to have it on Oct. 28, and that’s a Thursday,” Fannin said. “I called and told the county because they usually pick the same date as the city, but somebody told me they decided to do it on a Saturday.”

While the different dates may cause a little confusion for parents, Fannin believes that the children could be happy with the chance to hit the streets for sweets on two occasions.

“The kids might like it,” Fannin said.

Also in Prestonsburg, some businesses on Court Street will be handing out candy from noon until 2 p.m. on Oct. 28. Participating stores will have signs at the designated locations.

Trick-or-trick is scheduled to begin on both dates at 6 p.m. and last until 8 p.m.
