The closing date for schools in Floyd County has been announced, and students will be spending an extra 21 minutes in class in order to ensure the date is final, as long as classes remain in session without cancellation for the final months of the school year.

According to a release from Supt. Henry Webb, Floyd County Schools will make up two missed days by extending the school day by 21 minutes beginning today, April 21, through the remainder of the year.

With the added 21 minutes, schools that currently dismiss at 2:45 p.m. will now dismiss at 3:06. Schools that normally dismiss at 3 p.m. will now dismiss at 3:21.

The last day for students at all schools except for Betsy Layne Elementary, Stumbo Elementary and Betsy Layne High School will be Tuesday, June 8. The last day for Betsy Layne Elementary and Stumbo Elementary will be Wednesday, June 9. Betsy Layne High School’s final day will be Thursday, June 10.
