“This marks the route by which Confederate forces withdrew back to Virginia following the Battle of Middle Creek in 1862 and provided access to Confederate forces into Eastern Kentucky for several incursions later in the way,” said Floyd Davis, with Friends of Middle Creek.
Beginning on Saturday, the walk will start at the Bert Combs Bridge in Prestonsburg and progress to the Middle Creek Battlefield to allow walkers to participate in Park Day, a nation-wide effort to clean and preserve historic battlefields. The walk when then proceed along to the proposed route to the farm of Floyd and Nancy Davis at Pyramid for overnight camping. On Sunday, the walk will continue to Garrett.
