PRESTONSBURG – Brent Graden, Prestonsburg’s director of economic development, was recently appointed to a second term to the Center of Rural Development’s board.
The appointment is for a full term to the center, which serves the 5th Congressional District made up of 42 counties across Southern and Eastern Kentucky.
“This opportunity allows for the futher development of Eastern Kentucky,” said Graden. “By taking on a position as a full board member, I can champion for change right here in our backyard.”
The center has four basic focus areas: leadership, public safety, technology and arts and culture.
“The primary focus areas are traditionally a need in what has historically been one of the most economically challenged areas in the country,” said Graden. “Already, we have seen major improvements in the area of public safety and technology, and we hope to see more positive change come in the form of leadership and arts and culture.”
The Center for Rural Development was created in 1996 through the efforts of U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers. It serves as a state and national model for providing economic, technological and social solutions by bringing together the resources needed to allow communities to reach a more full potential.
