The Floyd County Board of Education held its 12th annual Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child celebration at the Wilkinson-Stumbo Convention Center on Dec. 6.

Students from all schools in the county submitted written projects that would fit in 30-second radio spots, and winners were selected by the schools before being sent to a group of community judges. The students utilized various writing prompts related to Christmas and the holiday season to craft their pieces.

The winners of the contest each received a copy of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” written by Charles M. Schulz, along with t-shirts and certificates for a meal at McDonald’s.

The event began with a welcome by Supt. Henry Webb and continued with introductions by Dr. Patricia Watson, a recognition of partners by Jeff Stumbo, board member, recognition of school coordinators and community judges, and a recognition of the students by school representatives, Rick Caudill, WMDJ Radio, and Cindy Wiley and Donna Kesner from McDonalds.

Also at the event, Sarah Joseph, a teacher at South Floyd High School, presented musical selections and a slide-show featuring the students.
