It’s a common lament among both children and adults in Floyd County ...

“There’s nothing to do!”

Of course, that’s not quite true. What the complaint usually means is, “I can’t think of anything to do.” Fortunately, Big Sandy Area Development District is coming to the rescue with an antidote to boredom, and just in time for whenever school lets out for the summer.

Area residents will find plenty to do on June 6, 7 and 8, when the Big Sandy Adventure Tourism Conference and Expo takes place. While the event is planned to extol the wide variety of outdoor activities available to tourists of the region, it will also serve as an excellent opportunity for locals to rediscover all of the exciting adventures available to them in their own backyards.

Several activities are planned for Saturday, June 6, including cycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, canoeing, pontoon boat rides and ATV rides. And not only are all of these events fun the whole family can enjoy, they’re also free.

More events are planned for Sunday, June 7, at the Mountain Arts Center, where the expo will take place. Local experts will be giving demonstrations and instruction on such topics as archery, bird watching, chain saw certification, fly tying, GPS, canoe/kayak instruction, wildlife photography, bicycle maintenance, wildlife, and turkey calling. Once again, all of these events are free.

So, nothing to do? Not by a long shot!

Additional information about the event and registration forms are available on Big Sandy ADD’s website, www.bigsandy.org.
