ALLEN - Floyd County Late Model driver Brandon Kinzer claimed a pair of third-place finishes late last week.
Kinzer and the No. 18 team ventured to Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) and Fort Payne Motor Speedway (Fyffe, Ala.) on June 28-29 for a pair of $3,000-to-win showdowns. On Friday night at Boyd’s Speedway, the Southern Regional Racing Series (SRRS) presided over a one-day show that was affected by a heavy afternoon rain shower. Kinzer posted the fastest lap in Group A during the qualifying session, which locked him into the pole position for the night’s 40-lap feature event. The Allen ace ran strong against the leaders throughout the race before claiming a third-place finish behind only race winner Josh Putnam and runner-up Jake Knowles.
At Fort Payne Motor Speedway on Saturday evening, the 6th Annual ‘Fire Cracker 50’ was held and another $3,000 top prize was on the line in the unsanctioned event. Kinzer qualified third quickest overall during time trials and later started from the inside of the second row in the 50-lap event. With passing at a premium during the caution-plagued race, Kinzer wound up finishing third in the final rundown behind only race winner Jason Hiett and runner-up Aaron Ridley.
