MOREHEAD – Maureen “Mo” Kasperek, an experienced teaching specialist and a former standout soccer player at Oswego State in New York, has joined the Morehead State athletic staff as its Learning Coordinator.

Kasperek, who will work with student-athletes in the EAGLE Center, was hired with funds from the NCAA Accelerating Academic Success Grant Program. MSU is one of six NCAA institutions that received a $360,000 grant aimed at enhancing student-athlete academic performance and improving Academic Progress Rate efforts.

“We are thrilled that Maureen has joined our staff,” Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services and Senior Woman Administrator Sara Larson said. “She has extensive teaching and tutoring experience and will boost our efforts in helping our student-athletes achieve their academic goals.”

Kasperek most recently served as a reading specialist and special education teacher at Granby Elementary School in Fulton, N.Y. She has also served in teaching and tutoring roles at Fitzhugh Park Elementary in Oswego and the Fulton City School District.

She was an assistant women’s soccer coach at Oswego State since graduating there in 2006. Kasperek helped guide the Lakers to an East Coast Athletic Conference title in 2011. She has also served as a softball and basketball coach for the Fulton City School District.

Kasperek holds the OSU career record for points (154) with 71 goals and 12 assists. She was a four-time All-State University of New York Athletic Conference pick and was named All-Northeast Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Kasperek earned her bachelor’s degree in 2006 from OSU and was awarded her master’s degree at the same institution in 2009.
