Pair arrested in McDowell robbery

McDOWELL — For the second time in three days, a Floyd County business was the target of an armed robbery. Unlike the first case, which took place Sunday night at the Allen Subway, this time police arrested two suspects.
Kentucky State Police Post 9 received a call shortly before midnight Tuesday night, reporting a robbery at the McDowell Stop and Shop.
Police responding to the scene learned that a tall male entered the store, wearing a white handkerchief over his face and brandishing a weapon. The man demanded money from the clerk, then fled west in a green Buick with an undisclosed amount of cash.
KSP Troopers Blake Frasure, John Dixon and Josh Brainard later observed a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the robbery and pulled it over. The driver, Scottie R. Bradley, 31, of Blue River, was subsequently arrested and charge with first-degree robbery, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, fleeing or evading police on foot, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and other traffic offenses.
A passenger in Bradley’s vehicle, Kelly J. Bryant, 43, of Martin, was also arrested and charged with first-degree robbery. Both suspects were lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center.
The McDowell robbery bears some resemblance to the one at Allen. During the Subway robbery, a tall man entered the business, wearing a white handkerchief over his face and brandishing a weapon.
Police, however, are not ready to tie the two cases together. KSP Public Affairs Officer Shaun Little said each robbery is being handled by a different detective and they are comparing notes and checking security cameras to see if there is a connection.
“Basically what I’ve got right now is that those two have been lodged on the McDowell robbery, and the detectives are working together to see if there are any ties,” Little said.
The McDowell robbery is being investigated by KSP Det. Chris Phillips. KSP Det. William Petry is handling the Allen case.
