PIKEVILLE – A graduate of Newark, Ohio, High School has signed to bowl for the University of Pikeville.
Austin Martin of Utica, Ohio, has signed a scholarship agreement to bowl for Coach Kyle Wilson’s team.
Martin, who has a pair of 300 games and a 299 in his five years on the lanes, has competed in the JTBAs for three years. His high series is a sparkling 801.
Martin is the son of former PBA bowler Robert Martin, who won a regional PBA championship in 1986 in Salem, Ohio. He was the 2013 district individual champion while his team won the district and sectional Ohio High School championship.
His high school’s anchor bowler for four years, Martin was named to the 2013 all-conference team after leading the conference in average. He finished sixth in the 2013 Junior Masters after placing in the Top 16 a year ago.
Martin is active away from the bowling center as well. He volunteers at a summer school for autistic children and helps his mother, Penny, with preschool and special-needs children.
