ALLEN - Allen Central claimed another 58th District/Floyd County Conference victory on Tuesday, toppling Betsy Layne 15-6 at Stumbo Park.
The Rebels improved to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the district/conference after posting the win. Allen Central, under the guidance of head coach Chad Hall, won for the second time in three outings. The Rebels returned to the win column following a loss to 15th Region foe Paintsville late last week.
The Bobcats dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the district/conference as a result of the loss. Betsy Layne had won three of its last four games before falling to the Rebels.
Allen Central sophomore pitcher Dalton Lawson earned the win. Lawson pitched a complete game, notching 15 strikeouts. His brother, Dillon Lawson, also pitched.
Helping his cause at the plate, Dillon Lawson delivered three hits and drove in five runs. Cameron Hamilton also had three hits and five runs batted in for the Rebels.
Each Lawson registered six strikeouts.
The Rebels scored first and never trailed. Allen Central plated runs in five of six plate appearances. The Rebels scored three runs during their first at-bat and eventually broke free from a back-and-forth battle with longtime rival Betsy Layne.
Allen Central led Betsy Layne 10-6 at the conclusion of the third inning and added five more runs over its final three at-bats.
Betsy Layne senior pitcher Michael Henson suffered the loss. Henson pitched 3.2 innings, registering nine strikeouts.
Sophomore James Frasure led the Betsy Layne offensive attack with two hits.
