PRESTONSBURG — The East Kentucky Science Center will be rocketing into space next Saturday, April 20, as the center celebrates National Astronomy Day.

That day, the East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium will be open from noon to 4 p.m., with planetarium shows, hands-on activities, NASA handouts, and solar observing if the sky is clear.

This year’s activities are sponsored in part by NASA, and participants will have a chance to win a one-year subscription to “Astronomy Magazine” and a telescope from Celestron.

Admission to the science center during the Astronomy Day event is free.

Later that evening, the center will offer a laser show entitled, “Laser Country,” which highlights the music of Charlie Daniels, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Carrie Underwood and more. The show features laser lights that stream overhead on the 40-foot domed planetarium, while the audience listens to music from one of the most powerful sound systems in the state of Kentucky.

Show time is 7 p.m. and admission for Laser Country is $5. per person.
