PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville Academic Team, Division I, recently placed second in a Kentucky Collegiate Quick Recall League tournament held at Eastern Kentucky University.

UPike faced tough competition from students representing the University of Louisville, Eastern Kentucky University, University of the Cumberlands, Murray State University and Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

The Kentucky Collegiate Quick Recall League promotes amiable competition within an academic setting. Through the academic tournament process, the KCQRL hopes to foster good will and provide a forum in which academic excellence may be rewarded. The league is made up of colleges and universities – both private and public – from across Kentucky and surrounding states. Each team has two divisions comprised of juniors and seniors and freshmen and sophomores.

Members of the university’s Division I team, juniors and seniors, include Bryan (B.T.) Sager of Grove City, Ohio; Eva Gardner of Sheperdsville; and Steven Loader and Thomas Browning of Pikeville. Division II, freshmen and sophomores, team members are Christian Wright of Elkhorn City; Evan Pittman of Ashland; Blaine Vance of Hardy; and Nikki Liesegang of Irvine. The team’s advisors are Amanda Runyon, instructor of developmental English, and Mike Holcomb, associate professor of mathematics.
