LEXINGTON - Floyd Countian Perry Jones is attending his 52nd Boys’ Sweet 16. Jones has been a fixture at the Kentucky boys’ high school basketball state tournament over the past five-plus decades.


Riverview Heath Care Center Administrator Missy Allen and her staff helped to make the trip possible for Jones, a resident at the Prestonsburg facility.


The Boys’ Sweet 16 tipped off at Rupp Arena in Lexington on Wednesday. In the opening day’s games it was Madison Central 81, Wayne County 56; Holmes 65, Pleasure Ridge Park 60; Graves County 74, Ohio County 60; Hopkinsville 74, South Oldham 52.


The tournament resumed on Thursday with the following matchups: Warren Central vs. Montgomery County; Fleming County vs. John Hardin; Johnson Central vs. Ballard; Knott County Central vs. Clay County.


Quarterfinals will be held at Rupp Arena on Friday. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday night.


The championship game of this year’s state tournament is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
