Floyd County Schools were recognized this week for outstanding performance in the recent District Governor’s Cup competition for elementary academic teams.

May Valley Elementary and McDowell Elementary each placed first overall in the district, with Betsy Layne placing first in both Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall.

“The board team and I wish you the best of luck in regional competition,” said Henry Webb. “We’d also like to especially congratulate Allen and McDowell Elementary students for winning the Hume Sportsmanship award as we highly value the qualities of good sportsmanship.”

According to Floyd County schools officials, the top five students in each event and the top two in Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall categories will advance to regional competition, which is the highest level of competition for elementary students. Regional competitons for Future Problem Solving and Composition will be Tuesday, March 19 at Cordia Elementary in Knott County. Written Assessment, Quick Recall and awards will be held on Saturday, March 23 at Cordia Elementary in Knott County.
