Katherine Newman, age 82, of Martin, died Sunday, Feb. 24, in the JJ Jordan Geriatric Center, in Louisa.

She was born March 20, 1930, at Drift, a daughter of the late Roy and Rose Ellen Kelso Wright. Katherine was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church, in Martin.

She is survived by a son, Bobby Jr. O’Bryan, of Avon, Ind.; a daughter, Brenda R. McKenzie, of Louisa; four brothers, Amos Wright, of Sturgis, Mich., Andy Wright, of Emma, John Wright, of Printer, and Roy Dale Wright; three sisters, Ruth Ann Striby, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Phyllis Senyk, of Charleston, S.C., and Violet Chaffin, of Prestonsburg; eight grandchildren, Bobby, Tabitha, Tanya, James, Jonathan, Angela, Christopher and Ashley; seven great grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler, Jonathan Michael, Tyler, Courtney, Katherine Rose and Bobby Jr. III; and a great great grandchild, Noah.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Edward O’Bryan; a daughter, Kathy Susan Ousley; a brother, Henry Wright; and two sisters, Emogene Castle and Doris Armstrong.

Funeral services for Katherine Newman will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Rick Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in the Drift Cemetery, with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements.
