PAINTSVILLE — Two Floyd County high school students will be headed to Louisville next month, to compete in the Governor’s Cup state academic competition.
Charly Hyden, a senior at South Floyd High School, placed second in English composition during regional competition at Johnson Central High School over the weekend. This will make the second consecutive year Hyden has competed at the state level in composition.
John Holbrook, a sophomore at Prestonsburg High School, will also be heading to Louisville to compete in mathematics, after placing fourth in regional competition.
Three Floyd County students were also named to the regional all-tournament team, including Tyler Price, of Allen Central High School; Kirklin Collins, of Betsy Layne High School; and Tate Greene, of Prestonsburg High School.
“We appreciate all the hard work and dedication our teams and coaches have put into this season and ask that you join us in celebrating our students who excelled,” said Supt. Henry Webb.
The Governor’s Cup will be held March 16-18, at the Galt House, in Louisville.
