BETSY LAYNE - Adams captured the Floyd County championship on Monday night, defeating tournament host Betsy Layne 56-46 in the title game at the Dome.


Scott Stapleton led Adams to the title. Stapleton scored a game-high 28 points for the Blackcats. The accurate-shooting Stapleton drained four 3-point field goals and hit 12 of 18 free throw attempts.


Bailey Slone joined Stapleton in double figures, scoring 13 points for the Blackcats.


Betsy Layne led 7-6 at the first quarter stop. Adams, however, used a 16-12 run in the second quarter to carry a 22-19 lead into halftime.


The Blackcats led 34-25 at the end of the third period and used a strong performance in the final quarter to claim the county crown.


Dylan Bishop scored eight points, Bryce Tucker tossed in four, Shaylor Spencer netted two and Nick Rowe added one for Adams in the victory.


Zack Hamilton led Betsy Layne with a team-high 17 points. Nate Hall netted 14 points and Jordan Kendrick contributed 10 for the Bobcats.


The current group of Adams Middle School eighth-graders has now captured fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-grade titles.

Semifinals - Adams 54, South Floyd 43: Dylan Bishop scored a game-high 16 points as Adams defeated South Floyd 54-43 in the semifinals of the Floyd County tournament.


Adams led at the end of each quarter, doubling up South Floyd in the first half. The Blackcats outscored South Floyd 13-7 in the opening quarter and led 32-16 at halftime.


Stopping more than one South Floyd run in the second half, Adams led 45-34 at the conclusion of the third quarter.


Scott Stapleton scored 13 points and Bailey Slone netted 11 as three different Adams scorers reached double figures.


South Floyd’s five starters accounted for all of the Raiders’ scoring in the season-ending loss.
