PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville baseball team repeated last week’s 1-2 effort for the weekend on a trip to Georgia.
The Bears dropped a doubleheader against Point University on Friday before pulling out a win in Saturday’s season finale.
Pikeville (2-4) is scheduled to be at home on Friday to begin a four-game series against Lourdes (Ohio). First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
Game One: The Bears managed only three hits in dropping the opener 5-0.
Pikeville managed singles by junior Luke Wright, freshman Erik Manning and junior Brad Andrews in the loss.
Point scored single runs in the first, second and fourth before scoring twice in the sixth.
Junior Joe Valentino went the first five allowing six hits and three earned runs. He struck out three and walked two. Logan Sales gave up two unearned runs in the sixth.
Game Two: The Bears broke a scoreless tie in the fourth but gave up two in the bottom of the frame and lost 2-1.
The game featured 12 singles, with each side accounting for six. Junior Bryan Bradley had two for the Bears and scored the only run. Junior Chaz Conteras also had two, while senior Pat O’Brien and junior Sean Ryan had one each.
Junior Corey Gilligan went the distance for the Bears, allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out five and walked two.
Game Three: UPike scored two in the top of the first, and after falling behind 4-2, put up three in the top of the seventh and held on for a 5-4 win.
The Bears managed their damage on only four singles. Senior Adam Overbay drove in two and scored one with a hit, while Manning singled and drove one in. Gilligan singled and scored while Wright had an RBI single.
Junior Zach Sutherland went the first six innings for the win, allowing seven hits and four earned runs. Senior Mike Rappazzo shut Point down for the final three innings for his second save of the season, scattering two hits.
