McDOWELL — A Floyd County woman was jailed last week after allegedly abandoning her son, after he sustained a stab womb, to return to a night of drinking.
Melissa Fisher, 32, of McDowell, was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, after police say she allowed her son to get so drunk that he stabbed himself.
According to police reports, Kentucky State Police troopers were dispatched Feb. 2 to a complaint of a minor who was stabbed. When police got to the home located on Middle Branch, police noted that the victim, a minor, was allegedly “extremely intoxicated and he advised that he got the alcohol from his mother.”
Police then went to the residence of the mother, where they found her, also allegedly intoxicated. Fisher advised officers that she had been drinking, and that her son had gotten drunk while she was gone.
Fisher told officers that after her son stabbed himself, she and her boyfriend attempted to drive him to the hospital, “but he jumped out of the vehicle and they lost contact with him, so instead of calling the police, her and her boyfriend went back to drinking and what they were doing.”
Fisher was arrested and transported to the Floyd County Detention Center. She was released Monday, Feb. 4, after posting a $5,000 cash bond. She is next scheduled to appear in court May 16.
