MOREHEAD - The Morehead State University men’s basketball team will travel to Oakland (Mich.) for the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tip-off from the Athletics Center O’rena is set for 5 p.m.

Oakland is currently 11-13 overall, 6-4 in the Summit League and 7-1 at home. Morehead State is 11-13 overall, 5-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference and 3-10 on the road. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The Golden Grizzlies, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2011, have collected 20-or-more wins in each of the past four seasons. Head Coach Greg Kampe has registered 501 victories in 29 years at OU.

“We’re looking forward to playing another quality opponent in a challenging environment,” Morehead State Coach Sean Woods said. “Oakland has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years. They will be tough, especially on their home floor.”

The event has been around since 2003 and will feature all OVC programs for an eighth straight season, but organizers recently announced this will be the final year. MSU’s last BracketBusters win came in 2011 at Indiana State.

The Eagles are idle until Saturday when they host conference rival Eastern Kentucky in a basketball doubleheader. The women will tip at 5:15 p.m. while the men follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets begin at just $8.

“Blue Out” set for Saturday: The Morehead State University athletic department is set for Saturday’s basketball doubleheader against Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Kentucky.

The first 500 fans in attendance will receive blue t-shirts from game sponsor St. Claire Regional Medical Center to support “Beat EKU Blue.” MSU students with their student ID will also be eligible for a chance to win one of two iPad minis courtesy of the Office of Student Life.

MSU student-athletes will be honored at halftime by OVC Commissioner Beth DeBauche. The academic recognition night will include members of the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Academic Medal of Honor recipients, Pioneer Football League Honor Roll and other top academic student-athletes.

This is the second meeting this season between the two institutions, as the Eagle women dropped a 62-52 decision on Jan. 12, and the men fell 59-52 in Richmond.
