Emogene Reed, age 87, of Betsy Layne, widow of Estill “Butch” Reed, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Pikeville.

She was born Dec. 1, 1925, in Stanville, a daughter of the late Henry and Verdie Hall Harmon. She was a homemaker and a member of the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church.

Emogene is survived by two sons, Joel Jennings (Lynda) Reed, of Uniontown, Ohio, and Estill (Trelvia) Reed Jr., of Betsy Layne; a brother, the Rev. James Harmon, of Allen; four grandchildren, Joel David (Becky) Reed, Dr. Mark Estill (Danielle) Reed, Phillip Dwayne (Amanda) Reed, and Alyssa Jeaneen (Justin) Kidd; and six great grandchildren, Corinne Reed, Allison Reed, Brayden Mark Reed, Grayson Daniel Reed, Logan Phillip Reed, and Madison Gillespie.

In addition to her husband and parents, Emogene was preceded in death by a sister, Byrtle Risner.

Funeral services for Emogene Reed will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Betsy Layne Freewill Baptist Church, with Tracy Patton, Barry Clark and Belmont Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 11 p.m., Thursday, and from noon to 11 p.m., Friday, at the church.

Hall Funeral Home, of Martin, is in charge of arrangements.
