All of Floyd County is under a severe storm warning, a high wind warning and a tornado watch, as a squall line that has tracked across the state all morning is now moving into the Big Sandy Valley.

The storm has already produced damaging winds and heavy rains in areas to the west.

The Floyd County Times will continue monitoring the progress of the storm and will continue to provide updates, as we learn them.

UPDATE, 8:45 a.m.: Although Floyd County is under a tornado watch, an advisory says tornadoes are not likely in this particular storm. However, because the storm is capable of rapidly producing a twister, residents of Floyd County are advised to seek shelter in an interior room, away from windows and doors.

UPDATE, 8:50 a.m.: Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Jackson say the storm is capable of producing gusts of up to 60 mph and hail up to a half-inch in size.

The severe storm warning remains in effect for Floyd County until 9:30 a.m. The high wind warning remains in effect until midnight. The tornado watch remains in effect until 1 p.m.

UPDATE, 9:05 a.m.: Although the worst of the storm appears to have now passed over Floyd County, according to National Weather Service radar, the county remains under a severe storm warning until 9:30 a.m.

Strong winds are expected to pick up later in the day, with the strongest winds and gusts most likely occurring this afternoon.
