MARTIN - The Piarist School girls’ basketball team dropped back-to-back games late last week, falling to 15th Region rival Phelps and Wolfe County.
Phelps 48, Piarist 18: Host Phelps never allowed the Piarist School girls’ basketball team to get going offensively, pulling away to defeat the Lady Knights 48-18 on Friday.
Phelps, under the direction of head coach J.R. VanHoose, a former Kentucky Mr. Basketball, limited Piarist in each half.
Kelli Akers led Piarist with five points. Christi Rose added four points and nine rebounds for Piarist in the loss.
Lauren Wright, Jessi Hale and Cathryn Calhoun contributed three points apiece for the Piarist girls’ basketball team.
Wright pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Knights.
Wolfe County 62, Piarist 46: Piarist returned home to host Wolfe County on Saturday. The Lady Knights, however, suffered their fourth straight loss as visiting Wolfe County prevailed 62-46.
With the win, Wolfe County ended a three-game losing streak.
After being held to 18 points one day earlier, Piarist converted more often on the offensive end in the home game versus Wolfe County.
Kelli Akers led Piarist with a team-high 22 points.
Cathryn Calhoun accompanied Akers in double figures, adding 12 points for Piarist (4-12) in the loss.
Lauren Wright (six points), Jessi Hale (five points) and Christi Rose (one point) also dented the scoring column for the Piarist girls’ basketball team.
Hale hauled in a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Knights.
