MARTIN - The Piarist School boys’ basketball team was unable to get back into the win column on Saturday. Visiting Buchanan prevented Piarist from earning its first win in four games, defeating the Knights 92-55.
June Buchanan, under the guidance of head coach Jerry Manns, a Floyd County native, improved to 8-10 after posting the win.
Piarist dropped to 3-11 after suffering its fourth straight loss.
Juwan Lynch led June Buchanan with a game-high 17 points. Lynch paced a balanced June Buchanan offensive effort that featured three scorers in double figures.
Lazarus Teny led June Buchanan with a game-high 31 points. Teny was one of four June Buchanan scorers to reach double figures. Juwan Lynch tossed in 20 points, Matt Kidd scored 14 and Matthew Ison netted 13 and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Crusaders.
Lynch and Kidd narrowly missed registering double-doubles. Each player pulled down nine rebounds.
Tyler Stumbo led Piarist with a game-high 28 points. Michael Williams accompanied Stumbo in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
John Gullett scored six points and hauled in 10 rebounds for the Knights in the loss.
Galvin Greene, Subhash Gutti and Skylar Williams chipped in three points apiece for the Knights.
Greene led Piarist on the boards, grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds.
June Buchanan swept a doubleheader from Piarist. In the girls’ game, June Buchanan defeated Piarist 58-46.
The Piarist boys’ basketball team is scheduled to visit Phelps Friday night. Tip-off for the Piarist-Phelps boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m.
