PRESTONSBURG — The former director of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce will avoid prison time, after pleading guilty to felony theft and forgery charges Nov. 29.
Mandy Stumbo, 32, of McDowell, was indicted on the charges July 18, following her departure from the Chamber in October 2011. At the time of her departure, there was no word whether she ended her employment willingly. She agreed to plead guilty to the charges Nov. 29
On Friday, she was back in court for sentencing, at which time she learned she would be given a one-year prison sentence, which she would not have to serve if she made restitution to the Chamber. According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner, Stumbo repaid the Chamber $17,162 in full last week.
Stumbo was accused of signing the names of Chamber members to checks, with “intent to defraud, deceive, or injure another,” between September 2010 and November 2011.
