Lady Eagles fend off Carlow, take over first place in KIAC

PIPPA PASSES - Ariel Nickell tossed in 25 points to lead the Alice Lloyd College women’s basketball team to its second win over a Pittsburgh school in as many days on Saturday. Host Alice Lloyd defeated Carlow 86-72 in the weekend women’s college basketball matchup.

In the first half, Nickell kept her squad ahead as she tossed in 19 of her game-high 25 points. At the half, Alice Lloyd led 44-39.

In the second half, Sheldon Clark High School graduate Booth, JJ Hickson, Lacinda Hack and Haley Smith caught fire and joined Nickell in helping ALC increase its lead to 17 points (65-48). The Lady Celtics fought valiantly and reduced the lead to 10 points, but that was as close as they would get.

In additional individual scoring for Alice Lloyd (10-6, 4-1 KIAC), Hickson tossed in 20 points .

Booth and Smith added 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Chanel Berry led Carlow (6-10, 2-7 KIAC) with 23 points.

Alice Lloyd now is in sole possession of first place in the highly-competitive KIAC.
