PIKEVILLE — Pikeville Police Department Chief Phillip Reed said that a death at a local college campus appears to be an isolated incident.
According to Chief Reed, his department responded to a call at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday to the Pikeville campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College. Officers found a male in the parking lot behind the building, deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
PPD said preliminary investigations are showing “at no time was there a threat made to the technical school or any other school and that it was an isolated incident.”
Model Daycare, which is located on the Big Sandy campus, did go on voluntary lockdown, due to their close proximity to the incident.
The incident is under investigation by the Pikeville Police Department.
