Paul Prater, age 81, of Hueysville, husband of Juanita Shepherd Prater, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Hueysville, a son of the late Corbett and Carrie Ratliff Prater. He was a retired coal miner.

In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by three sons, Paul Douglas (Taunda) Prater, Dwane (Doris) Prater and Darrell Prater, all of Hueysville; two daughters, Sandra Wallen and Dalphina (Alan) Conley, both of Hueysville; a brother, Nelson Prater, of Hueysville; two sisters, Ilene Meadows, of Richmond, and Thelma House, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Corbett and Carrie Ratliff Prater; son-in-law, Paul Wallen; three brothers, James C. Prater, Fair Prater, and Corbett Prater, Jr.; and a sister, Melba Sexton.

Funeral services for Paul Prater will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Jerry Manns officiating. Burial will follow in the Press Shepherd Cemetery, at Hueysville.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
