P’burg falls to Hazard, suffers third straight loss

HAZARD - Thirteen different Hazard players entered the scoring column Tuesday night as the Bulldogs beat visiting Prestonsburg 76-27.

Hazard remained undefeated, moving to 8-0. The Bulldogs also boast wins over Owsley County, Estill County, South Floyd, Breathitt County, Lee County and Whitley County. The Bulldogs have defeated 14th Region foe Owsley County twice already in the young 2012-13 season.

Prestonsburg, which suffered its third straight loss, dropped to 3-5. The Blackcats had dropped a game to 15th Region rival Magoffin County one night earlier.

Junior forwards Collier Mobelini and Christopher Hudson led Hazard with 10 points apiece. Mack Hall and Jarrod Combs each had eight points for the Bulldogs.

Hazard didn’t waste any time moving out in front of Prestonsburg. The Bulldogs outscored Prestonsburg 20-5 in the first quarter and owned a comfortable 40-16 lead over the Blackcats at halftime.

Hazard quickly extended its lead in the second half, outscoring Prestonsburg 23-4 in the third quarter.

Sophomore guards Jarredd Jarrell and Jarrin Hall led Prestonsburg with eight points apiece. Bryson Williams had six points, Aaron Foley three and Jon Stidham two for the Blackcats.

Magoffin County defeated the Blackcats 70-57 in a game played Monday night.

Prestonsburg is currently competing in a holiday tournament in Gatlinburg, Tenn. The Blackcats will host the Prestonsburg Invitational Tournament Dec. 27-29.
