PIKEVILLE – Sixth-ranked Lee University used a 19-0 run in the first half to knock off the University of Pikeville 79-54 Tuesday night at the UPIKE Gym.

Lee (10-1) fell behind 11-10 with 10:28 to play when junior Callisha Johnson hit a jump shot. But the Bears wouldn’t score for the next 9:01 while the Flames lit the lamp for their 19-point run. Six players scored for Lee during the stretch, led by junior guard Hollie German’s six.

By the time Pikeville scored again, on a layup by senior Sally Roberts with 1:57 to play, the lead had grown to 29-11.

The Flames never looked back.

German led all scorers with 20 for the Flames, who hit 43.8 percent overall and was 16-of-20 from the line. She was joined in double digits by sophomore Jenna Adams, who had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Thanks to Adams’ efforts, Lee controlled the glass 52-22.

Pikeville had one player in double figures as sophomore Natalie Tunnell came off the bench to go 5-of-8 from the arc for 15 points. Sophomore Christin Haney had nine to go with four assists.

The Bears hit 54.2 percent in the second half and was 7-of-11 from the arc for 63.6 percent.

Pikeville (5-7) will now begin its Christmas break and will return to the court on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it visits Bluefield College. The next home game is set for Thursday, Jan. 10 when No. 16 Cumberlands comes to the East Kentucky Expo Center for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
