HINDMAN — The Alice Lloyd College baseball team, along with Phi Beta Lambda members, RAs and representatives from SGA and the Impact Club, lent a helping hand at the annual Christmas for Kenny’s Kids event held Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Knott County Sportsplex.
Players from the baseball team were placed on cleanup duty while others from ALC welcomed children and their parents when they arrived, prepared treat bags, and served food to those in attendance at Saturday’s event.
Organizers welcomed a large crowd from Knott, Letcher, Floyd and Perry counties. There were 598 kids and 475 adults in attendance. The recent layoffs in the coal industry were thought to have contributed to the large turnout.
Children who attended received a gift and picture with Santa, in addition to bags of fruit, candy and a New Testament Bible presented by the Gideons.
The kids were not the only ones to receive a gift. ALC students remarked that the event reminded them not to take so much for granted and found the experience both rewarding and humbling.
