PRESTONSBURG – With the current downturn in the job market, many college students are expecting difficulty in getting employment, but an upcoming event at Big Sandy Community and Technical College hopes to provide some assistance to those who will be watching for “Help Wanted” signs and job postings in the near future.
According to Workforce Kentucky, a website directed by the Office of Employment and Training, the current state unemployment rate is 8.7 percent. Organizers of the job fair hope that local and state businesses will take the opportunity to set up booths and provide the students with employment information to help curtail the rising percentage of those who find themselves without jobs.
The college will host its annual Job Fair Day on Wednesday, April 8, with the hopes that the event will stimulate interests of the graduating students as well as to show the career opportunities available to them in various industries.
The job fair will be held in the atrium of the student center, with future graduates and job seekers visiting with career professionals starting at 9 a.m. The Job Fair Day is scheduled to end at 11:30 a.m.
For more information on the job fair, contact Vera Joiner, director of student activities at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, at (606) 886-3863, ext. 64798.
