Hicks, Gearheart perform at UK Dance Day

LEXINGTON - Two young dancers from Floyd County participated in the UK Day of Dance held over the weekend. Jalyn “Tate” Hicks and Lauren Nicole Gearheart attended a camp Friday night at Memorial Coliseum where they worked with the UK Dance Cats to learn a performance dance. They performed with girls from across the state and had the opportunity to perform in front of a large crowd at a Univefrsity of Kentucky women’s basketball game at Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.

The Floyd County duo had calendars and shirts signed and enjoyed taking pics with the University of Kentucky mascot, Scratch. The University of Kentucky women’s basketball game and performance was televised nationally on Fox Sports South.

Hicks is the nine-year-old daughter of Jeff Hicks of David and Rebecca Hicks of Prestonsburg. She is the grandaughter of Paul and Maggie Hicks of David and Denzil and Beverly Martin of Wayland.

Lauren Nicole Gearheart is the eight-year-old daughter of Tommy and Nikki Gearheart of Minnie. She is the grandaughter of Terry and Kathy Mullins of Hi Hat and Luci and the late Quintin Gearheart of Arkansas Creek.
