Bobcats claim early lead, level Piarist

BETSY LAYNE - It didn’t take the Betsy Layne Bobcats long to get back into the win column. Following a loss to Prestonsburg on Monday, Betsy Layne notched a convincing 79-27 victory over visiting Piarist School Tuesday night at the Dome.

Betsy Layne improved to 3-1 after posting the win.

Piarist dropped its second straight game, slipping to 1-2.

The Bobcats secured an early lead and never faltered. Betsy Layne added to its lead throughout the district/conference contest.

The Bobcats fared very well offensively, draining 33-of-67 field goal attempts to shoot 49.3 percent. Betsy Layne was nine-of-21 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.

A dozen different Betsy Layne players scored in the convincing win.

Junior guard Dylan Meade led Betsy Layne with a game-high 25 points. Meade was the only Betsy Layne scorer to reach double figures. Dalton Meade, Garran Newsome and Dustin Rogers added eight points apiece for the Bobcats.

Dylan Hamilton scored six points, Coby Harmon and Peyton Case chipped in four apiece and McKenzie Akers added three for the Betsy Layne in the victory.

Brandon Daniels, Dalton Maldonado and Blake Rose added two points apiece for the Bobcats.

Betsy Layne dominated on the glass, outrebounding Piarist 31-16.

Piarist shot 27.5 percent (11-of-40) from the field. The Knights were four-of-11 (36.4 percent) from 3-point range.

Ben Dennison and Tyler Stumbo led Piarist with seven points apiece. John Gullett added four points for the Knights in the loss.

Also providing scoring for Piarist were Subhash Gutti (three points), Bryce Marshall (three points), Michael Williams (two points) and Galvin Greene (one point).

Williams claimed a team-high seven rebounds for the Knights.
