Bobcats roll over Phelps, 79-29

BETSY LAYNE - The Betsy Layne Bobcats opened another season as a 15th Region title contender in convincing fashion on Tuesday night, toppling visiting Phelps 79-29 at the Dome.

Betsy Layne excelled from the opening tip. The Bobcats shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the field and also drained five-of-12 3-pointers in the debut performance.

Betsy Layne also turned in a stellar defensive effort. The Bobcats registered 29 steals/deflections. Host Betsy Layne also pulled down 26 rebounds, 13 of which came on the defensive end.

Thirteen different players provided scoring for the Bobcats.

Peyton Case led a balanced Betsy Layne scoring effort with 14 points. Dylan Meade scored 13 points and Dalton Maldonado added 11 for the Bobcats.

Meade led Betsy Layne from long-range, draining three-of-four 3-point field goal attempts.

Dylan Hamilton and Dustin Rogers added eight points apiece for Betsy Layne in the opener.

Other scorers for Betsy Layne were Garran Newsome (seven points), Dalton Meade (four points), Andrew Tackett (four points), McKenzie Akers (two points), Brandon Daniels (two points), Charles Daniels (two points), Tanner Martin (two points) and Aaron Rogers (two points).

Brandon Daniels led Betsy Layne on the boards, grabbing a team-best five rebounds.

The Bobcats had 14 assists compared to 10 turnovers.

Betsy Layne is set to venture out on the road for the first time in the 2012-13 season. The Bobcats will visit 58th District/Floyd County Conference foe Allen Central Friday night.
