Lady Eagles claim two wins in Asbury Classic

PIPPA PASSES - The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles won a pair of games in the Asbury Classic late last week. More on Alice Lloyd’s wins follows.

ALC 81, UC-Clermont 71: Junior forward Ariel Nickell poured in 33 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles to an 81-71 victory over UC-Clermont on Friday in the Asbury Classic.

The two teams exchanged baskets throughout the opening half. UC-Clermont clung to a hard-fought 45-44 lead at halftime.

Alice Lloyd, however, owned the second half. The Lady Eagles held UC-Clermont to 26 points after intermission en route to the win.

In the second half, Alice Lloyd stepped up its defensive pressure and put on a dominating performance. The Lady Eagles limited their opponent to just 26 second-half points to pull away for the convincing win.

For ALC (3-3), in addition to Nickell‘s big night, sophomore guards Carla Booth and JJ Hickson also had impressive outings. Booth, a martin County native who transferred to ALC from Eastern Kentucky University, pumped in 15 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out a team-high six assists.

Hickson chipped in 13 points and added three rebounds and three assists as well.

Sophomore Hayley Smith also gave a huge effort, tossing in nine points and yanking down 10 rebounds.

Forward Stacie Lee led UC-Clermont (4-2) with 20 points.

ALC 75, Point University 60: For the second consecutive night, Alice Lloyd turned in an excellent performance to earn a big victory, defeating Point University 75-60.

Alice Lloyd managed to carry a 38-31 lead over Point into halftime.

The Lady Eagles outscored Point 37-29 in the second half to pull away for the win.

For ALC (4-3), Ariel Nickell led four players in double figures with a game-high 32 points. She also registered 17 rebounds.

Sophomores Carla Booth, JJ Hickson, and Hayley Smith chipped in 16, 13, and 10 points, respectively. Booth added a game-high seven assists for the Alice Lloyd women’s basketball team.

Guard Raven Bell paced Point University (1-7) with 21 points.
