UPIKE bowling teams finish third, sixth in Raider Classic

PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville women’s bowling team finished third while the UPIKE men placed sixth in the Raider Classic in the Dayton, Ohio, area last weekend.

Coach Kyle Wilson’s UPIKE men were sixth out of 23 teams in the men’s varsity division. Their score of 9016 was just behind fifth-place Purdue, which finished with a score of 9067.

Martin Methodist came out on top with a score of 9601, followed by Urbana (9531), Notre Dame College (9456) and Morehead State (9129).

Freshman Zach Fylling was second overall with a five-game average of 227. Junior Fidel Marchena followed for the Bears, rolling a 202.2 to finish tied for 23rd. Senior Kyle McInereny averaged 191.3 for four games, while sophomore Lucas Hohnstein had a four-game average of 180.

Pikeville finished sixth and eighth in the junior varsity division of the tournament. Freshman Blair Cain had a five-game total of 1051 to lead the Pikeville B team, while sophomore Francisco Gamero followed at 1009. Senior Cory Cotterman paced the C unit with a score of 1037, while freshman Justin Edens compiled a total of 924.

The women’s team placed third, coming in behind Wright State and tournament champion Notre Dame College.

Sophomore Brianna Larson was third overall in the women’s draw, scoring 1033 for five games. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Christina Halen, who tied for fourth with a score of 1030.

Sophomore Kara Crowe was the overall winner of the junior varsity division, scoring 1049. Junior Alexis Vescovo rolled 783 for four games to finish 12th overall. Freshman Lauren Eggleton rolled 725 to finish just ahead of sophomore Jenna Grandy’s 724. Both played four games.

In the junior varsity bracket, Pikeville Orange was the winner with a score of 4515, while Pikeville Black was third at 4133.

The Pikeville women are back in action this weekend when they play in the Striking Knights Classic in Louisville. The men are off until the semester break and will return to action on Dec. 17-18 in the Collegiate Shoot-Out in Las Vegas.
