Local boys and ghouls have the “Frankenstorm” to thank for forcing them to wait an extra three days to satisfy their sweet tooths.

Due to the potential for bad weather, Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry Fannin and Judge-Executive R.D. “Doc” Marshall have rescheduled trick-or-treat.

While the resulting weather was not as bad as some had feared, trick-or-treat will now take place Saturday, from 6 to 8 p.m., in both the city and the county.

“As a result of forecasts of inclement weather, trick-or-treat night for Floyd County has been rescheduled for Nov. 3, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.,” Marshall said in a statement Monday announcing the change. “If you have any questions or comments, please contact my office at (606) 886-9193.”

Floyd County is situated at the edge of an area affected by a severe winter storm, resulting from an unusual confluence of Hurricane Sandy and Arctic air from the north. The storm resulted in over two feet of snow in some areas of West Virginia, as well as a foot in neighboring Pike County.
