BUCKLEYS CREEK - Allen Central captured its third 15th Region volleyball championship with a 3-2 win over East Ridge late Thursday evening at Pike County Central High School. Allen Central won the first two sets 29-27 and 25-19 but the Warriors roared back, taking the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19. The regional title match came down to the final set. Allen Central pulled out a 15-13 victory in the final set to clinch another 15th Region championship. A proven Kentucky high school volleyball program, Allen Central has claimed back-to-back 15th Region titles.
Allen Central pounded in 62 kills on .220 hitting. Courtney Hodge directed the Allen Central offense, dishing up 55 kills, smacking in two kills and registering three service aces.
Katie Kendrick pounded in 24 kills on .488 hitting. Rachel Moore smacked in 14 kills and led the Allen Central volleyball team with five service aces. Ciara Jones delivered 12 kills and Laken Tackett slapped in seven for the Rebels.
Sarah Grindrod chipped in three kills and set up a kill for the Allen Central volleyball team.
Defensively, DeShea Elliott led the Allen Central back row with 23 scoops. Hodge logged 19 digs, Kendrick dug up 18 and Moore earned 12.
Tackett and Kendrick blocked 11 each for the Rebels.
Moore, Elliott, and Kendrick were selected for the All-Tournament Team and Hodge was named the MVP.
Allen Central will travel to Louisville’s Valley High School on Friday, Oct. 26 to take on 4th Region champion Greenwood in the opening round of the KHSAA State Volleyball Tournament at 2:30 p.m.
