PRESTONSBURG — Two men could see a little more time added to their sentences, after it was discovered last week they were trying to dig through the walls of the Floyd County Detention Center.
Deputy Roy Thornsbury heard a banging noise late in the evening, Oct. 17, in the Floyd County Detention Center. After searching around the building trying to uncover the source of the noise, he came upon two inmates, Travis Michael Hall, 30, of Prestonsburg, and John C. Maynard, 26, of Jonancy, attempting to dig their way through the wall of the cell.
According to the complaint filed in Floyd County District Court, both Maynard and Hall, while inmates at the Floyd County Jail, “took a metal piece off a mop and started digging a hole in the wall in the shower, causing damage in the amount over $500.”
Hall is serving time on a host of charges, which included third-degree assault of a police officer, disorderly conduct and being a persistent felony offender. Maynard is being held on charges of fourth-degree assault, as well as additional charges from Pike County.
Hall and Maynard were each charged with one count of second-degree criminal mischief and one count of second-degree escape (attempt). Both charges are listed as misdemeanors.
