Rebels shut out Paintsville in regular-season finale

EASTERN - The Allen Central High School volleyball program sent seniors Courtney Hodge, Ciara Jones and Laken Tackett out with a win on Wednesday. Allen Central defeated 15th Region rival Paintsville 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-14) in a regular-season finale.


Allen Central closed out the regular-season 28-5.


During their time with the Allen Central volleyball program, Hodge, Jones and Tackett amassed a 164-52 overall record, winning two regional championships, four All ‘A’ regional titles and three district championships.


The three, during their high school careers, combined to earn 1,176 kills, 966 assists, 322 service aces, 1,708 digs and 318 blocks.


“It is bittersweet to see these three closing out their regular-season volleyball careers at Allen Central because their names are synonymous with Rebel Volleyball,” Allen Central Coach Larry Maynard commented. “They have epitomized hard work, dedication and determination – they have always been result-oriented. I say this without hesitation, someone may take their place, but, make no mistake, no one will replace them.”


Freshman Katie Kendrick notched 14 kills and posted four blocks to lead the Rebels.


“I was afraid that this would be a roller-coaster tonight and am proud of the way our girls played through an emotional evening to get the win,” Maynard added.


Allen Central hit at .870 and had a kill ratio of .220 percent. Allen Central had three players post six kills each. Hodge, Tackett and Moore delivered six kills apiece while Ciara Jones tallied five put-downs. Sarah Grindrod contributed four kills for the Rebels.


Hodge directed the Allen Central offense flawlessly and dished out 30 kills. Moore and Kendrick blasted in four service aces each while Hodge and Jones landed three each as the Rebs served at 91 percent.


Defensively, Hodge and Tackett had a block apiece. Grindrod and Moore blocked one and recorded a block assist each. Jones also earned a block assist for the Rebels. DeShea Elliott led four players in double digit digs with 21 scoops. Kendrick added 13 digs, Moore earned 12 and Tackett dug up 11. The Rebels only committed three reception errors in 103 attempts and registered 68 total digs.
