David Sherman Whisman, age 78, of Prestonsburg, husband of Teressa Reed Whisman, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at the Nim Henson Geriatric Center, in Jackson.

He was born August 18, 1934 in Bluefield, W.Va., the son of the late Henry Sherman and Edith Cooke Whisman. He was a salesman and of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife, Teressa, David is survived by a son, Steven Oliver Martin, of Eureka, N.C.; a sister, Judith (Jesse Daryll) Whisman Powell, of Durham, N.C.; sister-in-law, Ruby Whisman, of Sevierville, Tenn.; two nieces, Amy Nester and Michelle Johnson; a nephew, David Jerome Whisman; and mother- and father-in-law, Rabon and Anna Reed.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret Whisman; and a brother, Richard Wesley Whisman.

Funeral services for David Sherman Whisman were held Sunday, Sept. 30, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin. Burial followed Monday at the Rose Lawn Cemetery, in Princeton, W.Va.
