PAINTSVILLE - Betsy Layne shook off a loss to district rival Prestonsburg from one week early late last week, defeating host Paintsville 20-14 at Memorial Field on Friday night.


With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 4-2 overall.


Paintsville, a team that has now dropped three games by eight points or less, fell to 1-5.


Senior running back Josh Salisbury and junior quarterback Dylan Hamilton combined to lead the Bobcats.


Betsy Layne rushed for 270 yards en route to the non-district win. The Bobcats picked up another 150 yards through the air.


Salisbury presented problems for the Paintsville defense as he rushed 17 times for 120 yards and one touchdown.


Hamilton was very effective through the air, completing seven-of-15 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. The second-year starting quarterback went interception-free in the road game.


Houston Hall turned in another solid effort on the offensive side for the Bobcats. Hall rushed 14 times for 89 yards.


Hamilton proved to be a dual-threat for Betsy Layne as he rushed a dozen times for 60 yards.


Blake Spencer led Betsy Layne in receiving, grabbing four receptions for 111 yards and two touchdowns.


Hall, Peyton Case and Dustin Rogers hauled in one catch apiece for the Bobcats.


Case had an interception for the Betsy Layne defense. Also excelling defensively, Spencer led the Betsy Layne defensive effort with 10 tackles.


Kash Daniel kept Paintsville in the game. Daniel rushed 20 times for 135 yards. The Paintsville freshman also had a hand in on both of his team’s touchdowns.


Betsy Layne will return to district competition later in the week, hosting Leslie County. The Bobcats will end the regular-season with four straight home games.
