Allen Central beats Betsy Layne, clinches conference

EASTERN - In a high school volleyball battle at tradition-rich J.E. Campbell Arena on Tuesday (Sept. 18), Allen Central defeated visiting Betsy Layne 3-1 (25-14, 30-32, 25-15, 29-27) to clinch the Floyd County Conference championship.

Allen Central improved to 24-5 overall and 7-0 in the conference after collecting the win.

After being named MaxPreps Player of the Week, Courtney Hodge directed a balanced Allen Central attack, registering a career-high 55 assists. Hodge also paced the Allen Central serving game with four aces.

Katie Kendrick also achieved a milestone, pounding in a career high 24 kills on .545 hitting with two service aces.

Rachel Moore and Ciara Jones chipped in with 17 and 12 kills, respectively.

Jones landed two service aces for the Rebels.

DeShea Elliott led the Allen Central back row with 22 digs and 28 receptions. Hodge had 20 scoops for the Rebels.

Kendrick registered seven blocks and Laken Tackett stopped six at the net for the Allen Central volleyball team.

Allen Central had 10 aces and served at 94 percent. The Rebels pounded in 70 kills on .427 hitting and logged 62 assists.

Defensively, Allen Central returned 66 attempts, recorded 21 blocks and earned 85 digs.
