BELFRY - Prestonsburg and Belfry both suffered an early-season loss last week. The two longtime football rivals will renew their football seriesFriday night as Prestonsburg pays a visit to Belfry at CAM Stadium.
The Blackcats are set to play on the road for the second straight week. Prestonsburg is 2-1 following a heart-breaking loss to Lawrence County last week. Lawrence County edged the Blackcats 42-41, scoring on the final play in regulation and adding a successful two-point conversion to clinch the win.
Prestonsburg won each of its first two games in come-from-behind fashion, battling back to beat Perry County Central and Sheldon Clark at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium.
First-year quarterback Jarredd Jarrell is on pace to pass for 1,000 yards midway through the season. Jarrell has completed 44-of-78 passes for 784 yards and six touchdowns. The Prestonsburg signal-caller has been intercepted only four times in nearly 80 pass attempts.
Jarrell also leads Prestonsburg in rushing. The sophomore has rushed 39 times for 240 yards and seven touchdowns. Prestonsburg junior Grant Anderson has hauled in 19 receptions for 347 yards and two touchdowns. Anderson leads the Blackcats in receiving.
Seniors Bryson Williams and Alex Griffith and freshman Dalton Frasure have also emerged as key skill players for the Prestonsburg offense.
Defensively, Griffith leads Prestonsburg with a team-best 36 tackles.
Belfry is 1-1 following a loss at home to Henry Clay last week. Henry Clay defeated the Pirates 40-20.
Belfry won its opener on Aug. 24, besting Harrison County 46-14 in the Pike County Bowl.
Running back Trenity Carr and quarterback Sani Warren lead the Belfry offense. Belfry enjoyed an open date in Week 0.
The Pirates pulled away to beat Prestonsburg last season, prevailing 48-30 over the Blackcats.
Kickoff for the latest Prestonsburg-Belfry game is set for 7:30 p.m.
