Piarist upends Jenkins, KCC

MARTIN - The Piarist School volleyball team has won back-to-back matches, defeating a pair of squads from the neighboring 14th Region. More on Piarist’s back-to-back wins follows.

Piarist 2, Jenkins 1 (16-25, 25-22, 25-11): Piarist upended host Jenkins on Thursday (Aug. 30), edging the Lady Cavaliers 2-1.

Jenkins started strong, pulling away to win the first set 25-16. Piarist won the last two sets 25-22, 25-11, claiming the match in the process.

Tyra Nairn paced Piarist with a match-high 21 kills.

Blair Johnson delivered 32 assists for the Lady Knights.

Piarist 3, Knott County Central 1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 26-24): Visiting Piarist notched its second straight win on Tuesday, besting host Knott County Central 3-1.

Piarist won the first set 25-20. Host Knott County Central fought back to win the second set 25-20. After rolling to a 25-16 victory in the third set, Piarist pulled out a hard-fought win. The Lady Knights edged Knott County Central 26-24 in the final set.

Blair Johnson led Piarist with 32 assists, nine kills and three aces.

Katie Goble added two assists, 13 kills and five aces for the Lady Knights.

Tyra Nairn (one assist, eight kills, three aces), Kelli Akers (five assists, six kills, seven aces), Lexi Peterson (two assists, five kills, two aces) and Lauren Wright (three kills, seven aces) also contributed for Piarist in the winning effort.
