Charlie “Speed” Rollins, 98, of Bypro, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at his residence.
Charlie was born June 27, 1914, to the late George Washington and Minnie Lee Gilliam Rollins. He was married to the late Emogene Lawson Rollins, and was a retired coal miner, a UMWA member and a member of the Wheelwright Masonic Lodge #889.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Clifton Houston Rollins, James Franklin Rollins, William Mack Rollins, Recca Scott Rollins, Thomas Jefferson Rollins, Arthur Lee Rollins and Clara Mae Chitticks.
He is survived by a son, James Thomas (Donna) Rollins, of Louisville; a daughter, Lois Jean Curry, of Wheelwright; five
grandchildren, Kimberly Lynn (Joe) Tackett, Shelia Gaye (Roy) Harlow, Laura Michelle (Shawl) Jarrell, Ingred Edwards, and Charles Scott (Stacey) Rollins; 11 great grandchildren, Rebekah Ann (Payton) Robinson, Rachel Lynn (Shane) McCrown, Jared Allen (Shauna) Harlow, Jordan Andrew Curry, Cody Daniel (Brittany) Harlow, Eden Elizabeth (Joshua) Davis, Micah Seth Harlow, Sarah Cassidy Johnson, Kiersten Mae Edwards, Jamison Tayler Edwards and Charles Jo Rollins; great great grandchildren, Cooper Ray Elkins, Noah Payton Robinson and Quinn Allen Harlow; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Wheelwright Methodist Church, with Roy Harlow officiating. Visitation will be at 6 p.m., Tuesday, at the church, with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m., Tuesday night, by Wheelwright Masonic Lodge #889. Burial will be at Rollins Cemetery, at Bypro.
