PAINTSVILLE - The Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats evened their overall record to 1-1 Thursday following a hard-fought 4-3 victory over host Johnson Central. Prestonsburg edged district foe Johnson Central in overtime.

The Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team, under the direction of head coach Scott Porter, doubled its offensive output from an opener versus Pikeville.

“This was our first district game of the season and we’re glad to win it,” Porter commented.

Sophomore forward Katie Porter carried a big offensive load for the Lady Blackcats. The younger Porter pushed in all four goals for the Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team. Katie Porter scored the game-winning goal with 1:30 remaining in overtime.

Porter had each of Prestonsburg’s assists in its season-opener versus Pikeville. The Lady Panthers pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 10-2 in the opener played early last week.

Lady Blackcat goalkeeper Autumn Hall held Johnson Central to three goals in the Lady Blackcats’ latest outing.

Prestonsburg is scheduled to host Johnson Central on Sept. 13.

In the boys’ game played as part of a boys-girls doubleheader, Prestonsburg defeated Johnson Central 3-1.
