BETSY LAYNE - The Prestonsburg junior varsity football team, playing on the road, blanked Floyd County foe Betsy Layne 16-0 Monday evening.

Quarterback Corey Grigsby scored on a sneak and Jackson Reed found the endzone on a 15-yard touchdown for the Blackcats.

Defensively, Prestonsburg never allowed Betsy Layne to get past its own 30-yard line. Zack Blanton and Chatlin Jarrell each had an interception for the Prestonsburg defensive unit, which featured many leaders.

The Prestonsburg junior varsity team will host Breathitt County on Monday at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium. Coach Kevin Woods guides the Prestonsburg junior varsity team.

The Prestonsburg varsity unit completed a successful comeback on Friday night, defeating visiting Perry County Central, a non-district opponent, 27-24 in a season-opener. Prestonsburg trailed throughout its matchup against the Commodores. Several underclassmen played key roles for the Prestonsburg varsity team in the season’s opening game.

This week, Prestonsburg will entertain Sheldon Clark in another non-district varsity game.
